My First Two Chapters of My Short Story!

Chapter 1

“Rory!” Yelled Lucy as she was pouring her coffee into her mug. Lucy was already 15 minutes behind schedule due to her alarm clock not going off this morning. She didn’t remember if she set it correctly the night before. Three glasses of wine will do that to a person, Lucy thought to herself shaking her head.
“You have 15 minutes before we are leaving this house!” Lucy again yelled as she went up the stairs to get dressed for work.
17 minutes later they were both in her four door sedan driving towards Rory’s school and the veterinary clinic where Lucy worked. She has worked at the Blue Hills Veterinary Clinic for almost 10 years. She loved her job, the animals, and the people she worked with.
As they pulled up to the curb, Lucy leaned over to Rory who was taking off his seat belt.
“Have a great day kiddo! I hope you do well on the math quiz!” She kissed his cheek quickly before he could scoot out the door.
“Bye Mom, love you,” he said quietly as his friends started to walk over to the car.
“Love you sweetie, have a great day!” Lucy called as she put the car in gear. Rory was in 6th grade at the Mid Haven Middle school. He was a quiet, smart, athletic 11 year old who was the apple of his mother’s eye. His father passed away 2 years ago and he is still having problems because of that.

Chapter 2

Lucy pulled up a few minutes later to the veterinary clinic. She got out of her car and locked it as she walked across the parking lot. It was a quiet Friday morning. It was about 60 degrees and the sun was shining brightly. It was going to be a beautiful day according to the weather man on TV this morning. North Carolina was a very beautiful place in early May, before it got too hot. Lucy and her family moved to North Carolina almost 10 years ago when her husband Phil got a job at the local college teaching history. Phil loved his job so much, and the area. Lucy loved the area too, they both have made many friends here. Neither Lucy or Phil had much family left. Lucy smiled, thinking how much Phil would love to see how well Rory is doing. With school work, and on the baseball field.
Lucy used her key to open the back door of the clinic and then paused to let it shut and lock behind her. The back doors to the clinic were always kept locked due to safety reasons. Mid Haven wasn’t a bad town at all, there were a few bad apples, like with anywhere. And the fact the clinic held on hand many different anesthetic drugs, the owners didn’t want to take any chances.
“Hi Lucy!” Shannon said as Lucy passed her in the hallway.
“Hi Shannon!” Lucy replied with a bright smile. Shannon had only been at the clinic for a few months. With her upbeat personality and calmness under pressure, she was the right fit in a veterinary office.
“We have a lot of appointments today so I hope you had enough coffee!” Shannon smiled as she sipped her thermos full of coffee.
“Yes, I did! And I almost didn’t , my alarm didn’t go off this morning.” Lucy replied with a shrug.
“Hmm, weird! Well I will let you get settled, the first appointment isn’t due for 15 minutes yet.” Shannon said as she started to walk to the front of the office.
Lucy went to her desk down the hall and started to put away her purse, keys, and packed lunch. She grabbed her favorite pen and started walking towards the front of the office, where reception was.
Bang! Bang! Bang!
Lucy gasped and jumped, what in the world?
Shannon and Tracy ran back from up front.
“What the heck was that?” Shannon cried. Lucy and Tracy were creeping toward the door.
“Maybe Dr. Moor forgot his keys?” Tracy wondered out loud. Tracy was the veterinary clinic's long time receptionist. She has been there almost 20 years. She knows the whole town like the back of her hand. Dr. Moor has owned and operated the practice for almost 30 years. He usually comes in right before his first appointment of the day.
“He wouldn’t be hitting the door that loud.” Lucy said. The back doors, the clinic had two, were big, heavy metal and were loud when someone knocked on them.
“Well what do we do?” asked Shannon as the three women stood right next to the door.
Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang! Now there were several loud knocking heard of the heavy door. The woman all looked at each other with scared, wide eyes.
Click, click, thud. Those sounds were heard up front on the glass doors. The front doors were also locked, Tracy unlocked them right before 9 am when the clinic opened.

“I am calling 911!” exclaimed Shannon as she pulled her phone out of her scrubs pocket.

That's all I have for right now, please let me know what you think! I am brand new at this ๐Ÿ˜Š
